Moss Letters

Something to open. Something original to keep. Something to notice.

In a world of hurried messages, Moss Letters offers the pleasure of something slowly made: a letter from the natural world, written and posted to you each month, accompanied by a small original artwork made individually by hand in my studio.

Each letter begins with something I have noticed — a change in the season, a leaf or feather encountered on a walk, an ordinary detail that becomes more interesting the longer we look, or a question that has stayed with me. It is a quiet invitation to look again, rather than a lesson in what you ought to see.

Made to be kept, gathered, or passed from one hand to another

Every monthly artwork is complete in itself, with its own marks, impressions and variations in colour and texture. You might frame one as a little picture, bring four together as a small collection, or arrange twelve into a larger composition over the course of a year. Or you might attach one to a greeting card and send an original piece of art to someone else.

There is no prescribed arrangement and no need to collect all twelve to have something complete. Each fragment can stand alone; together, they become a growing record of what the seasons have brought.

The photographs illustrate possible ways of displaying the work. Any backing sheet, frame, card or hanging bars shown are not included unless expressly stated.

What comes in each letter?

A nature reflection and one original piece of artwork are at the heart of every Moss Letter. Occasionally there may be another small seasonal surprise, such as an eco-printed tag, postcard or bookmark, but these extras are not guaranteed.

When are Moss Letters posted?

Letters are prepared and dispatched together towards the end of each month, with UK postage included in the price. For the current month's mailing, please order by the 25th; orders placed after that date join the following month's mailing. Delivery dates cannot be guaranteed.

Giving Moss Letters as a gift

A Moss Letter can be a gift that unfolds over time. Prepaid three-, six- and twelve-month gift collections, with a choice of starting month, are being prepared. For a Christmas gift beginning with the January mailing, the intended ordering deadline is 25 December. Please contact me about gift arrangements while the checkout options are being finalised.
