What arrives each month

A quiet letter from the natural world, arriving through your letterbox each month.

Twelve months. Twelve original prints. One completed work.

Moss Letters began with a simple idea: that in a world of hurried messages, endless scrolling and so many things competing for our attention, there might still be pleasure in receiving something slowly made, thoughtfully written and intended to be kept.

Each month I write from whatever I have been noticing in the natural world: the small changes in a season, something encountered on a walk, a question that has stayed with me, or one of those ordinary things that becomes less ordinary the longer we look.

Alongside every letter, you will receive a small original artwork, made individually by hand in my studio.

A year in twelve fragments

Each month’s artwork becomes one part of a twelve-piece collection, but every piece is an original. The prints are individually made by hand, so differences in colour, texture, pressure, marks and impression are part of their character.

No two Moss Letters are quite the same.

Keep each fragment as a little work of art in its own right, or collect all twelve and, at the end of the year, bring them together to create one larger artwork: a quiet record of a year spent noticing.

Because every fragment is individually made, no two completed collections will be identical. Month by month, your own will slowly take shape until, at the end of the year, you have a twelve-part original artwork that belongs only to you.

The photograph shows an example of how a completed twelve-piece collection can look. The example has been arranged on an A2 backing sheet and displayed using simple magnetic hanging bars. The backing sheet and hanging bars are not included, and there is no prescribed way to display your collection. Keep the pieces individually, frame them, arrange them in your own way, or bring all twelve together.

And something unexpected…

The letter and your original monthly artwork will always be at the heart of Moss Letters.

The rest is deliberately less predictable.

You may open your envelope to discover another small piece made by hand in my studio: perhaps an eco-printed gift tag, a postcard, a bookmark or another paper fragment inspired by the season. For UK letters, there may occasionally be a small natural element too, such as a pressed leaf or flower.

I don’t want every Moss Letter to be exactly the same. Part of the pleasure, I think, lies in opening an envelope without quite knowing what else might be waiting inside.

The letter and the original artwork will remain constant. The rest will change with the seasons, with what I am making, and with what I happen to notice.

A small invitation to notice

Moss Letters are not intended to tell you what you should notice.

They are an invitation to slow down for a moment, to become curious about something you might otherwise have passed by, and perhaps to carry a little more attention back into your own ordinary days.

You may find yourself looking twice at a seed head beside a path, watching rain collect on a branch, or wondering about the life of something you have walked past a hundred times.

Sometimes that is enough.

Choose a monthly subscription, or a prepaid three-month, six-month or twelve-month collection. The prepaid collections are paid for once and end automatically after the final monthly delivery.

Something to open. Something original to keep. Something to notice.
